EKG technician job a good choice?

I live in NYC and I’m looking into doing the certificate program to become an EKG technician. Are they many job opportunities out there for an EKG?(probably a dumb question but I have to ask). And is the pay pretty decent? It looked it up that they receive about on average like 20 to 25 thousand dollars a year. So all in all is this a good move? Anyone have EKG tech experience and can put in their two cents?

Hi, I live in LA and I used to be an EKG technician. The operative words here is used to.I worked with a registry so I got placed at different job sites throughout LA county. The pay is nice (anywhere between 15-25 an hour) and I loved my job.

Unfortunately, the places I was working at had to lay me off because they lacked the patient flow and/or could get other less skilled people (like a CNA) to do my job and pay them 9 bucks an hour. The market may be better in NY, I would check your job listings. The only problem about it is that its such a limited scope of practice and CNA’s, LVN’s, and RN’s can do your job with extra training.
