Perfect Eye Contact – The Dos and Don’ts!
Therefore, it is important that we should have the perfect eye contact so that the other party will not get uncomfortable, but instead know that you are interested in the things that he had said.
To show interest
Dos:
- Fix your gaze directly on the person who is talking a little longer than usual. This would tell the person that you are being attentive and that you have eyes for who and what you are looking at. By doing this, you will then achieve the perfect eye contact of showing interest in something or someone.
- The perfect eye contact would include building rapport with someone. To achieve this, you need to meet a person’s gaze between 60 to 70 per cent of the time.
- Show that you are attracted to someone by allowing your eyes to wander over him/her face and body. This would be the perfect eye contact for creating intimate feelings on someone. However, you will only succeed if the look is returned. If this does not happen, change back to the social gaze or you may find yourself into big trouble.
Don’ts:
- Be sure not to shift your eyes onto another person. This would imply that you are not interested in the things the speaker had said. Thus, your perfect eye contact will not be achieved this way.
- Do not struggle to establish and maintain your eye contact with someone. You should exclude this as signals of prevarication and doubts will be send out through your eyes.
To show effective gazes in business situations
Dos:
- Constrict your pupils and hold your gaze on someone for more than two thirds of the time. This is the perfect eye contact you should give to show that you disfavor someone.
- Slightly narrow your eyes to show that you are being dominant, strong and that you are in control in that particular situation.
- Grab the attention of someone by looking directly in his eyes without flinching. This stare can be very threatening and it tells the listener that you need his attention.
- Keep your gaze in the triangle area between your eyes and the centre of your forehead if you want to be taken seriously. As long as your gaze is within that area, it would definitely tell someone that you are in control of that interaction. This perfect eye contact will be extremely useful if you want someone to know that you are a person who means business.
The perfect eye contact is therefore essential in our everyday lives as it can convey what we feel and what we want to the others. This would therefore mean that what you expect from the other party will be achieve at the end of the day.
