Personalized Emails Generate 43 Percent More Clickthroughs Than Generic Messages

Though you might not think it, email marketing produces sales – surveys prove it. Sales from email marketing have grown, even though spam is on the rise.

An Epsilon study pointed out that 84 out of 100 readers of email campaigns actually followed a link to get more information, if the original message seemed relevant. Over 70 percent of the responders reported that they purchased something because of an offer they received in an email. Place each recipient’s name in the subject area and text body so they think the email is addressed just to them. One report showed how personalizing e-mail messages brought more than 43 percent hike in click-tos, over 400 percent boost in sales and almost 43 percent less removals than non-personal e-mails. You can better your results even more by telling recipients early on (in the subject area and in the beginning of your message) why you are emailing them. Avoid talking around the reason for writing and just say it clearly, early on. Perhaps you want to move unwanted inventory, so you cut the price and announce it by email. Describe briefly why your are emailing and if they know you, include a reminder of how. If they have done business with you before, mention something specific to your previous interaction.

Don’t send unwanted emails to those who aren’t on your opt in list. Always honor any opt out requests right away. But don’t worry, most automated email systems include an opt out link. No matter what your approach, don’t fall into the role of being known as a spammer. Because so many detest spam, complaining to the sender’s web host can get the sender’s site shut down. Sending unsolicited bulk emails can generate complaints that could lead to your facing court time.
