A Great Deal: Metal Roofing Cost per Square Foot
Metal roofing material cost is usually much less than other roofing materials such as wood, pick or stucco. There are many wonderful properties of metal roofing material that makes it beneficial to use not just for the price initially, but for the savings in the long run. Metal roofing material is composed of different types of metals, the most common of which is aluminum since it is also the cheapest. Metal roofing used to be known more forĀ commercial roofing, but it is growing in popularity among the residential community as well, giving homes a modern look that cannot be otherwise achieved through other roofing materials.
Variations in Cost
Metal roofing cost per square foot is affected by different factors in relation to the type of metals used in the roofing material. Copper roofing material is more expensive than aluminum, which is usually priced at about three dollars and fifty cents per square foot. Copper has a unique look that is sometimes valued and used by designers to create a different look for a house or office building.
Standing seam metal flashings roofing is also more expensive metal roofing per square foot since the pieces fit together side by side and are hooked together with a hidden fastener, creating a seamless looking roof. The metal also has a pattern of ridges built into it which gives a modern look to any home or office. Standing seam metal roofing usually runs about seven hundred fifty to fifteen hundred per square foot for the installation and for the product.
Even though metal roofing cost per square foot may be about average in the roofing world, metal roofing usually pays for itself many times over during the lifetime of the roof. Metal roofs often have warrantees that run from twenty to forty years depending on the company. The reason that the warrantees are so long is because an average metal roof lasts for at least forty years, which in itself more than makes up for the metal roofing cost per square foot. In addition, maintaining a metal roof only takes about thirty cents per square foot each year to keep up, which is way below other roofing material maintenance costs.
Some metal roofing material can also come with what is called a cool metal roofing which has a heat deflecting metal coating so that sunlight is deflected rather than absorbed by the roof, thus decreasing air conditioning costs in hotter climates. There is also insulated roofing material which provides a solid panel of insulation without any gaps in it for a unified insulation for keeping in both cool and hot air, depending on the season.
