Could I weld two pieces of metal together without welder?

just like macgyver, he fixed a compressor engine with a busted piston with a 115v generator, two car-battery-clamps, and two quarters.
he attached one end of the clamps to the metal and the other end to the two quarters, it sparked and melted the metal.
it’d be great so i can make frames and stuff without a real welder..
P.S How hot are 115 v sparks?

Arc welding machines usually put out relatively low voltage, only about 19-30V while producing gobs of current, 80-200 amps.

It would be hard to create a steady, controllable arc at 115V, without using unsafe amounts of current. The reasons for this are complicated. A portable 115v generator probably wouldn’t produce enough current to strike an arc.

An electric arc can be anywhere from 6,000 to 20,000 degrees and up.That depends on a lot of factors, like the current and the length of the arc.

You can use a big 24v battery from a diesel engine to arc weld. I’ve never tried it, but I know people that have.

If you connected a couple of 12V car batteries in parallel, you could probably make some spot welds.You’d need some pretty sturdy copper cable though, otherwise your leads would overheat.
