Which Music Game Should You Buy?

This has always been a tough decision to have to make ever since the likes of Rock Band game Guitar Hero World Tour came along, which music game is right for you? Now this decision is becoming even harder because both gaming companies are releasing even more games, so here’s a post to explain the range of games you can get on the next-gen consoles.

Guitar Hero 2 is where I’ll begin because this is the first game to be released onto the next generation gaming consoles. Although this game is brilliant, it only has a guitar career so I wouldn’t suggest it for a beginneer. I would recommend it if you love playing classic songs.

Guitar Hero 3 is available on the PS3 and the Xbox 360 and this is the next one on the list. Guitar Hero 3 is very similar to the previous Guitar Hero 2, it’s an extremely good game, however it’s restricted by having only the guitar career. However, I believe that this game has the best song line up so this is a must have for a Guitar Hero fan.

The next one is Guitar Hero Aerosmith but I will also include Guitar Hero Metallica because they are both band-based games. Based on what I just said, these games are not brilliant for beginners because you don’t get the range of songs that you would in the normal games. Unless you are a fan of that particular band, I wouldn’t recommend that you buy them.

Guitar Hero World Tour is a very popular one currently because it is the first Guitar Hero to contain all instruments, the mic, drums, bass and guitar. However, I don’t think that it comes with a good set list. It’s crammed full of old cheesy songs that are terrible for solo play.

Guitar Hero Greatest Hits is the next game, but it’s also the latest released. In my opinion this game is the best for any beginner Guitar Hero player or even for an entire family. I think this because the set list contains the best songs from Guitar Hero 1, 2, 3, 80’s and Aerosmith. This means that you get the best set list from all those games, plus the ability to play through the songs using any of the available instruments.

Now onto the likes of Rock Band, Guitar Hero’s competitor. The first game, Rock Band 1, was extremely good because it had a great set list as well as the addition of the full range of instruments. The guitars they made were a bit of a disappointment but the game itself if very good. However, with the release of Rock Band 2 I wouldn’t buy Rock Band 1 as the first game because Rock Band 2 comes with an equally great set list but it comes with added bonuses that the first game doesn’t. Also, once you have Rock Band 2, you can buy Rock Band 1 and put all those tracks onto the Rock Band 2 game.

The big downside to Rock Band 2 in Europe is that you can’t purchase the new drum set which comes with a range of added features like metal drum pedals. Note: This kit is being released in the upcoming, The Beatles: Rock Band game.

That’s not all, though, Rock Band also has a huge online library of songs that you can download for a small amount. They have hundreds of songs that you can download, plus all of these work on any of the Rock Band games so you can always be growing you song list.

However, is Rock Band a good choice for beginners? I would say no, but, it is the best game for a experienced player because it does have the best set list, it is hugely expandable with songs being released every week.

As for the best game for beginners, I would have to say Guitar Hero Greatest Hits, just make sure you get all the instruments to get the most out of the game.
