Is joining the Disabled American Veterans chapter helpful?
I just joined today. I am a 20% Service connected disabled veteran. I have a total of 10 years of service with the Army. I was medically discharged in 1997. I am not sure if it is too late for them to help me. Anyone have positive or negative comments about the DAV?
Joining the DAV is definitely a plus if you are service connected. Although they do offer services at no-charge to non-members, members have priority and full-attention. They will also keep you up-to-date on new policies and procedures with the VA. Remember, the DAV is there to help you submit requests to the VA. We all know that the VA is the worst when it comes to paperwork. It is designed to confused the hell out of you, which is the reason a lot of servicemembers don’t apply for benefits. The DAV is trained and understands the process of the VA. I highly recommend that you join a life member. Your 20% disability will gradually increase as you get older. But, the DAV needs to help you with that.
