Liberty and Tyranny Book

Yesterday I went to book stall and picked up Mark Levin’s new book “Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto.” A short summary Liberty and Tyranny, it is a 205 pages long book, and I had it completed in five hours.

The Liberty and Tyranny theme is straightforward and logical. Chapter one, “On Liberty and Tyranny,” lays out the basic conceptual scheme. Mark Levin contrasts 2 opposing political philosophies currently in contention: The Conservative versus the Statist.

He observed that the the statist is discontented with the condition of his own existence. The writer condemns his fellow man, environment, and society itself for denying him the accomplishment, success, and acclamation he believes he deserves.

On the one hand, the Liberty and Tyranny is an exhaustive yet compact lecture on the major political issues of this time. On the other hand, the writer brings to bear the rules of the Yankee Founders and Framers of the Constitution (and the great thinkers who guided them ), illustrating, dissecting, and explaining our present political arguments, while enlightening the reader with the real knowledge left to all of us.

Writer quite properly rejects the label “liberal”, because in current usage the term has become wholly divorced from its literal meaning. He writes:
The Modern Liberal believes in the supremacy of the state. For the Modern Liberal, the individual’s imperfection and private pursuits impede the objectives of a utopian state. In this, Modern Liberalism promotes what French Historian Alexis de Tocqueville called soft tyranny, which becomes increasingly more oppressive, partly leading to hard tyranny…. As the word “liberal” is, in its classical meaning, the opposite of authoritarian, it is more correct,, to characterize the Modern Liberal as a Statist. (page 4)

Each chapter in Liberty and Tyranny is a well-constructed article, so the reader is reasonably free to read it a little at a time. But, unlike so many contemporary political works, it’s also a well-constructed and continuity though out the book This could entice you to remain up all night reading it as soon as a copy comes into your hands.

Overall Mark Levin’s “Liberty and Tyranny” is a price worth to buy and read for those who interest in political philosophy

The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album

The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album

$5.17

At the time of its release, this was the watershed for soundtracks, selling a kazillion copies. It documents Whitney Houston’s character in the Kevin Costner movie, which required Houston to play only herself (although one hopes she wouldn’t end up with someone as smarmy as Costner). The album is as much a testament to the production of Babyface who, through the mid-1990s, actually was the mainstr…

Gunfighter Ballads & Trail Songs

A lonely Westerner in Nashville, Marty Robbins salved his soul by cutting an album (in one afternoon) of mostly self-composed cowboy ballads. One of them was a four-and-a-half-minute epic, “El Paso,” that broke every rule of Top 40 programming to become a No. 1 pop and country hit in 1960. Robbins was arguably the most surefooted and accomplished singer in all country music, and that was never mor…

Newcomer Eric Church, the pride of Granite Falls, North Carolina, arrives with his first album–on which he wrote or co-wrote all 12 cuts–as a man worth watching. This ’90s update of the Spencer Tracy-Elizabeth Taylor hit is a mix of the pleasant and the silly, a nice enough movie but a little too controlled to become particularly interesting. Steve Martin plays the aging patriarch who is threatened by his daughter’s engagement and not-quite-willing to let her go. The writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers provides Martin’s character with …

Fantastical writer Gary Ross (Big, Dave) makes an auspicious directorial debut with this inspired and oddly touching comedy about two ’90s kids (Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon) thrust into the black-and-white TV world of Pleasantville, a Leave It to Beaver-style sitcom complete with picket fences, corner malt shop, and warm chocolate chip cookies. When a somewhat unusual remote control (prov…

In Independence Day, a scientist played by Jeff Goldblum once actually had a fistfight with a man (Bill Pullman) who is now president of the United States. Independence Day is the kind of movie so giddy with its own outrageousness that one doesn’t even blin…
